Have you seen this bird with brownish and blue colored birds when you are roaming around fields or near electric poles of green places...??

well this beautiful bird is the State Bird of Karnataka and is called as Indian Roller 

And....Other states like Odhissa and Telangana also have chosen this bird as a state bird!!

These birds can often be seen in urban, and suburban areas, cultivated agricultural lands, and open grasslands. They are often seen perched on roadside trees or wires and near green cultivated lands. 

They generally eat nuts, seeds, small reptiles, grasshoppers, ground insects, and crickets.

Their breast is brownish and the tail is dark blue. Feathers are a mix of dark blue, light blue, and pale green, and it's a feast to the eyes watching them fly. and It is beautiful to watch the feathers of it while it's flying.

ನಗರದ  ಬಳಿ ರೋಡ್ ಪಕ್ಕದ ಮರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ, ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ವೈರ್ ಗಾಳ  ಮೇಲೂ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳು ಒಮ್ಮೆಮ್ಮೆ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುತ್ತವೆ  

ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ, ಹಣ್ಣು, ಚಿಟ್ಟೆಗಳು, ಮಿಡತೆ, ನೆಲೆದ ಹುಳುಗಳು, ಸಣ್ಣ ಹಾವುಗಳನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತವೆ. 

ಹಕ್ಕಿಯ ಎದೆ ಕಂದು ಬಣ್ಣದ್ದಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅದರ ರೆಕ್ಕೆ ಕಡು ನೀಲಿ, ತೆಳು ನೀಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಸಿರು ಮಿಶ್ರಣವನ್ನು  ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ಇವು ಹರಡುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡವುದೇ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬ.

Its a member of cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes. 
They lay eggs in Crow's or some other bird's nest. They usually eat insects, fruits, caterpillars and eggs.


From my childhood, I always heard the marvelous and melodious cockoo voice, but never saw it or observed it. I always heard that its a very shy bird... looks like crow... 


And to my surprise, I got chance to witness the bird coming and sitting in the window side near by elachi hannu tree(Indian jujube fruit's tree). and I was glad that I almost watched this bird's activity for over month until the summer fruit is gone. and Everyday I used to sit at my window to capture this bird's picture  and many other small birds which comes to eat the fruits.

Bee-eater  - Common birds of Karnataka

During my morning walk in Mysore, I found this beautiful green bird called a bee-eater hanging around an electrical wire. These birds have many different species (27 different species)  and most of them are found around Africa and Asia.


These Birds will have long curvy beaks with medium to long wings.
and they eat insects, mostly bees and wasps.
